As a parent of deaf children, it’s natural to feel overwhelmed and uncertain about the best ways to support your child’s development. When I first learned about my children’s hearing loss, I felt like the rug had been pulled out from under me. Like many parents in this situation, I turned to the internet for answers, particularly social media platforms like Instagram.
However, I quickly discovered that the world of social media influencers and online advice wasn’t always helpful – and sometimes, it was downright harmful to my confidence as a parent. Here’s how I learned to navigate this challenge and found a better way to make decisions for my deaf children.

Remember, you have the power to make the best decisions for your child. No internet influencer knows your family’s unique situation better than you do. Trust in your ability to discern what’s best for your child, and don’t be afraid to tune out the noise when necessary.
If you’re feeling overwhelmed by social media advice about raising deaf children, remember:
By focusing on your child’s specific needs and relying on trusted professionals, you can navigate the journey of raising deaf children with confidence and joy.
Remember, you’re not alone in this journey. Come join the Raising Deaf Kids Community on Facebook and together, we can empower each other to make informed decisions and be the best parents we can be for our deaf and hard-of-hearing children.
